The Stanford Faculty Senate had its first meeting in September, 1968. To celebrate its first fifty years, Gerhard Casper, Susan Schofield, Peter Stansky and Ethan Ris will briefly present reflections on its history and its role in Stanford’s rise to academic prominence. The occasion will also be the launch of a book devoted to the story of the Senate and containing reminiscences by its former chairs, and an essay on the role of faculty governance at other institutions of higher education.

Copies of the new book, The Stanford Senate of the Academic Council: Reflections on Fifty Years of Faculty Governance, 1968-2018 will be available for purchase.
