The Stanford Historical Society (SHS) presents three annual awards in recognition of distinguished volunteer service to the society, excellence in historical research and writing, and exemplary work in oral history. The SHS Oral History Program sponsors summer internships for Stanford students to learn the skills and best practices of oral history interviewing, archival preservation, and access while contributing to the documentation of Stanford University’s history.

The Schofield Award aims to encourage oral history at Stanford, strengthen the collections of the Society and the Stanford Libraries, and recognize excellent quality in oral history work.
