In his oral history interview, Professor Victor Fuchs discusses his pre-Stanford years: background, education, his early mentors, and how they influenced his work. He shares his experience prior to coming to Stanford, the circumstances that brought him here, and what happened when he first arrived. He talks about his teaching, his role in the field of health economics and how it evolved, and his current projects and thoughts on health care reform. At the time of his death in 2023, Fuchs was the Henry J. Kaiser Jr. Professor of Economics and of Health Research and Policy, emeritus. He was also a senior fellow, emeritus, at SIEPR; and a Stanford Health Policy (SHP) faculty affiliate.
