Frederick Phillip Lipschultz received a bachelor’s degree in physics from Stanford in 1959. In this interview, he describes his student years at Stanford in the 1950s, his education and career in physics, and the circumstances that led him from the University of Connecticut to San Francisco in the mid-1990s. He also describes the many connections that have resulted from his volunteer work with the Sierra Club, public broadcasting stations, and other organizations. Of particular interest are his comments on the underground nature of gay life in Palo Alto in the 1950s and his path to coming out in San Francisco in the 1990s.
