Chronicles of Stanford Architecture Launches Anniversary Programs

On November 16, 2025, the Stanford Historical Society (SHS) hosted a sold-out program, Chronicles of Stanford Architecture, in celebration of its 50th anniversary. Members and guests gathered both in person and online for an afternoon exploring Stanford’s architectural legacy—from its historic campus origins to the contemporary design of the Computing and Data Science (CoDa) building.

The program opened at the Sapp Center for Teaching and Learning with "Stanford Architecture: Its Beginnings," presented by architectural historian Paul V. Turner. Attendees praised Turner’s engaging storytelling and use of archival material to illuminate how early planning decisions shaped Stanford’s campus and identity.

The second presentation, "Arcades to Algorithms: Stanford’s Design Legacy," took place at the CoDa building and was delivered by Sam Miller of LMN Architects. This portion of the program was frequently cited as a highlight, offering insight into CoDa’s design process and its role in extending Stanford’s architectural language.

The afternoon concluded with a reception and self-guided tours of CoDa. Survey feedback reflected strong enthusiasm, with attendees valuing the dual-venue format and the pairing of architectural history with contemporary practice.
