G. Robert Hamrdla

In an oral history conducted in 2011, G. Robert Hamrdla discusses the two meaningful threads in his career at Stanford that began when he enrolled as a student and continued beyond. First of all, it is Hamrdla’s overseas experience in Germany. He belonged to only the second group of students to participate in the Bing Overseas Studies Program. It was a transformative experience for him, leading him to an extended and extensive role in the program. Secondly, it is Hamrdla's love for students and the guidance, assistance, and counseling he provided to many, many students over the years. He was the first director of the Academic Information Center and was a central force in its development. In the interview, he also provides an insider’s view of the presidencies of Richard Lyman and Donald Kennedy.
