Since its beginnings in the late 1970s, volunteers have powered the Stanford Historical Society Oral History Program. Our team members conduct interviews and complete post-interview tasks necessary to make oral histories accessible and useful for researchers. The Oral History Committee, a dedicated group of Stanford alumni, staff and faculty with a deep knowledge of the university's history, oversees the program’s work. As of 2016, approximately 60 active volunteers make the program run.
The society encourages the oral history efforts of other Stanford organizations. If you are considering launching an oral history project, we may be able to to provide advice, training, equipment, or modest funding support. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 650-725-3332 to schedule a consultation.
The society relies on the generosity of members and friends to fund the Oral History Program. Grants and gifts support program personnel, recording equipment, transcription service, and post-interview production. To make a gift to advance this important work or to discuss oral history sponsorship opportunities, please contact us at email@example.com or 650-725-3332.
